Philosophy

IQRA’s popular Kindergarten program serves as a transition between Kindergarten and the Elementary program. The philosophy is based on the ‘developmentally appropriate approach’ and traditional skill-based programs, in an active learning environment, which involves experimentation, exploration, discovery and practice. At IQRA academic excellence is best achieved through critical thinking, solving, discussion, communication, and practice with an emphasis on sound Islamic morals to help build self-confidence and a strong Islamic identity. IQRA has a successful path for Middle School students in all areas of learning to be successful in high school with a hands-on approach incorporated to allow an active learning process at all grade levels. IQRA provides a positive Islamic representation and encourage community involvement in the growth of IQRA Islamic School.

Program

IQRA is focused on quality academic education in an Islamic environment, strengthening students about themselves, their religion, country, culture, and the world. The program helps preserve Muslim identity, gives structure, substance, and meaning to basic knowledge, encouraging students interest in advanced learning. The school's mission is based on the principles of Quran and Sunnah, developing future leaders in lines with our traditions, beliefs, and values.

Curriculum

Our curriculum provides Islamic education under a quality program as follows:

      • Social Awareness (respect, cooperation, and the ability to share)
      • Communication Skills (verbal and non-verbal)
      • Self-Esteem (self-awareness and positive self-image)
      • Cognitive Growth (comprehension, critical thinking, and problem solving)
      • Physical Growth (gross and fine motor skills)

Standard Subjects

The school curriculum follows State of California framework, national educational standards, and uses state adopted textbooks. The curriculum provides students with a solid educational foundation in the language arts (reading, spelling, creative writing, handwriting, and English grammar), mathematics, science, and social studies. A strong emphasis is placed on the importance of critical thinking in all of the above areas. Physical education follows school guidelines.

Religious Studies Program

Our goal is to develop love for and understanding of Allah Subhanahu Tallah and Islam and to nurture an identity in each child as a confident and faithful Muslim. We accomplish these goals through instruction in three basic areas: Qur’anic Studies, Arabic Language, and Islamic Studies with Tarbiyah.

In the elementary grades, students receive instruction in these with specialist teachers for one and a half hours per day. Teaching students to read Quran with proper Tajweed is Iqra’s Primary Goal and a guideline to achieve. Nooraniya Quaida is used to teach students proper Tajweed rules with alphabet recognition, recitation rules, and Makharij (Pronunciation) to achieve Completion of Quran Recitation at Iqra. Using a series of text materials in Arabic, the teacher follows a sequential program in which students develop their reading, writing, and speaking ability in Arabic Language. In Islamic Studies, the program emphasizes various themes each month from basic beliefs and stories of the Prophets to moral values and ethics. Tarbiyah Class develops all aspects of the Muslim character and to raise committed and disciplined Muslims.

The Quran and The Sunnah of Rasool Allah Sallalahu Alehe Wasalam is taught with understanding. Verses from the Qur’an are selected according to these themes for children to understand and memorize as part of our Qur’anic Studies curriculum. Chapters from the Thirtieth Part (30) of the Quran are also taught according to age-appropriate with meaning. A new Program of Memorization of 30 Juz for students who are able to memorize will be provided at Iqra. We wish to further enhance the teaching the Seerah of our Prophet Sallahu Alehe Wasalam from third grade onwards to eight grades as part of the curriculum. Alhumdulilah!

Our Staff

IQRA Islamic School has qualified teachers hold academic degrees meeting high academic standards.

Ratio of Adults to Children

Research has confirmed that one of the most significant factors in providing a quality learning environment for children in a group setting is the number of educated staff available with whom the children can interact. Not only do more staff provide better supervision and care, but also a greater variety of personalities so that the children will find a "special someone" to bond with. The high ratio of adults to children encourages the best in teacher competencies. Each of our teachers brings energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the program. The maximum class size for our elementary grades is 20.  If the class exceeds 20 an aid will automatically be hired for support.

Staff Meetings

Size and training of staff are not enough to assure a quality program unless that staff has adequate opportunity to plan, coordinate, and evaluate program goals and activities. To facilitate our operation, we conduct monthly staff meetings and individual meetings for all teachers with the principal.

Staff Growth and Development

Staff inspiration, refreshers and on-going training program include:

1.  Annual Orientation and Retreat

2.  Professional Development Workshops

3.  In-Service Seminars
